Sandra Penstone-Smith - Mixed Media Artist

I am a (mostly) self-taught artist interested in recreating discovered landscapes and flora and fauna using mixed media (acrylic paint, collaged papers and card, charcoal, pastel, ink and pencil). I have recently moved to rural North Norfolk from Hertfordshire and have become fascinated by the local landscape, rich in buildings predominantly made from flint, boulders and weathered red bricks and both wild and tamed flora and fauna, all of which, is constantly changing with the seasons, giving endless source material to fuel my interpretations. I also create images using fabric and freehand machine embroidery.

My passion for art continually drives me to push my processes in directions outside my comfort zone to see where it might lead and I also believe that this passion can be found in the process of the exploration. The final outcome of a piece is almost a by-product! Explore my portfolio to discover the stories behind each group of artworks and the inspiration that fuels my artistic journey.

“Sandra likes to explore various mediums in order to depict captivating scenes. Depth and texture are added, offering the viewer a unique glimpse into the process followed in order to create each final, immersive piece of artwork, using either mixed media or fabric and freehand machine embroidery."
